Challenger takes focus on climbing performance. It brings a portal axle structure, two-speed reverse drive transmission, free switch between front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive mode with DIG system and 6.6% overdrive ratio between front and rear wheels.
The motor and 2-speed servo-operated gearbox are mounted in the front to improve the front wheel traction and increase the climbing angle. Gearing was carefully tuned to provide great low-speed control and after switching to high gear also surprisingly high speed.
Another servo is reserved to switch between all-wheel drive, front-wheel drive and DIG function, which further enhances the climbing performance.
The central transfer case adds a set of reverse gears, so the driveshafts connected to the front and rear axles can rotate in opposite direction. The reverse drive reduces torque twist and improves overall balance.
The axles have a portal structure for increased ground clearance. Thanks to the CVD axles, the maximum steering angle is up to 42 degrees.
The body shell has a truck-shaped appearance with two-sections and transparent windows in retro styling. It's equipped with a winch with unlock function, spare tire and LED light system. There is also plenty of plastic accessories like a roll cage, air grille, rear-view mirrors, etc. It can be opened by a flip cover for easy battery replacement.
