The XLPOWER Nimbus 550 V2 Nitro is a 550-class RC helicopter for pilots who want nitro character in a precise, service-friendly airframe. It combines the scope for powerful aerobatic flying with the dimensions of a mid-size helicopter. Designed for .50–.55 engines, the kit provides a foundation for regular training and demanding 3D manoeuvres.
The V2 introduces a factory-balanced clutch assembly and an extended engine shaft component to improve concentricity. A revised starter coupling arrangement helps prevent the assembly from loosening during operation. The taper-fit connection supports accurate alignment, an important part of achieving smooth operation in a nitro helicopter.
A one-piece 7075 aluminium bearing block and servo mount forms the structural core. Cyclic servos use a 120° layout, while the rotor head incorporates 1:1 control geometry. A revised upper swashplate and longer outer ball links refine the linkage arrangement. The updated tail pitch control system draws on the electric Nimbus V2 design.
The standard 7.7:1 gear ratio is intended for 550–580 mm main blades, and the fuel tank holds 345 ml. For maintenance, the engine can be removed through the bottom of the frame, while the cooling fan shroud is independently removable from the side. This provides convenient access for engine adjustment and routine servicing, making workshop preparation more straightforward.
