SKY RC LapWiz - IR Smart RC Lap Timing System

"LapWiz is a smart system for measuring lap times and tracking the racing performance of RC models, designed for individual training, club races, and professional race tracks. With a combination of high-precision infrared (IR) lap timing, real-time race management, training with a virtual opponent, cloud connectivity, and performance analysis, LapWiz helps racers understand every lap and improve with confidence. Whether you’re training on your own, organizing club races, or competing against friends, LapWiz ensures fast, accurate, and reliable lap timing and offers intuitive control via the app.

The LapWiz system consists of a transponder (“chip”) with an infrared transmitter installed on the RC car, and a timing unit located at the start/finish line, which detects when the car passes and transmits data via Bluetooth to the SkyRC mobile app.

The LapWiz Starter Kit includes a standard T01 transponder suitable for use both indoors and outdoors, with a range of 3–10 m depending on lighting conditions. Each transponder can be assigned a two-digit identification number—meaning the system can theoretically support up to 99 transponders. In addition to the standard T01, you can purchase the T02 Outdoor Transponder as needed—which offers higher performance thanks to a dual IR transmitter and is suitable for outdoor driving—or the T03 Mini-Z Transponder, tailored for popular Kyosho Mini-Z cars for indoor driving.

The SkyRC app (for iOS and Android) enables intelligent analysis of recorded times and comprehensive management of training sessions and races:

Operating Modes
You can choose between four operating modes: Practice, Qualifying, Race, Free Run

• Practice: Timing starts automatically as soon as the first car crosses the starting line. Each car completes its own independent timed practice session (5 minutes by default).
• Qualifying: Timing begins after a countdown. Each car completes a separate qualifying run (5 minutes by default), with the order determined by the fastest lap time.
• Race: Timing begins after the countdown. All cars share the same stopwatch. Once the race time expires (5 minutes by default), the race ends after all cars have completed their current lap.
• Free Driving: Unlimited recording of runs with support for multiple cars and no ranking. The system remains continuously active (up to 16 hours, or it automatically shuts down after 30 minutes of lost Bluetooth connection) until manually stopped. Multiple cars can be recorded simultaneously, and the system supports automatic lap splitting. For example, if a car drives for 5 minutes, then stops for 30 minutes for maintenance, and subsequently drives for another 5 minutes, the system automatically creates two separate valid laps and excludes the downtime during maintenance from the recording.

For individual training, the Shadow Race mode is available—a training mode that lets you race in real time against your current best lap or a saved run. This mode is ideal for testing changes to settings—such as tires, camber and toe, gear ratios, or the ideal racing line. Shadow Race helps you tune your car more effectively, drive more consistently, and achieve faster lap times.

The mobile app also allows you to connect to a Smart TV via AirPlay/Apple TV or use Android screen sharing for a large-screen display.

The LapWiz kit includes: a timing unit, a standard T01 transponder, a sun visor mount, a tripod stand, and a user manual.
