The agile and very manoeuvrable Nieaport 11, called "Baby," was the French answer to the introduction of German fighter monoplanes Fokker E.III armed with a synchronized machine gun firing on the propeller circuit. Because the British and French have long failed to develop and operate a reliable synchronizer, their fighters wore a machine gun on the hinge on the canopy of the upper wing. This emergency solution had a lot of drawbacks - especially when replacing the magazine - but in turn made it possible to attack the most vulnerable spot of enemy reconnaissance and bombing aircraft from behind and from below. Also with incendiary and jerky ammunition, these machine guns were a deadly enemy of German observation balloons and airships filled with highly flammable hydrogen.
The kit features the Nieuport 11 in the colors of Eskadrille Lafayette, a unit of American volunteers serving in the French Air Force before the US joined the war.
The kit of free-flying WWI fighter one-and-a-half fighter designed for rubber beam drive, instructions and plan allow to build the model also as freely flying with 0.33 ccm internal combustion engine or as detailed detail model in museum quality.
The model is a classic all balsa construction in plaster with laser-carved wooden parts, dummy accessories made of vacuum-formed plastic, plastic parts made by injection molding and pre-cut parts of "plastic plywood", lightweight and solid material replacing classic plywood.
Nieuport 11 is also suitable for converting to RC model with electric drive - although the construction plan does not offer this variant, this should not be a big problem for a more experienced modeller.
Kit contains: balsa laser carved parts, balsa beams, pre-cut parts of plastic plywood, vacuum molded dummy parts (engine cover, dummy engine, machine gun ...), plastic propeller with shaft and head, rubber band bundle (rubber bands 5x1mm), plastic wheels , steel wire for chassis and other small parts, plastic wheels, upholstery paper, sheet of decals, building plan.
