In the middle of the 1990s, the Italian designer Pasquale Russo and his team set out to create an ultra-light tourist aircraft with excellent flight characteristics, short take-off and landing capabilities, with a classical proven design, which would be economical in operation, easy to build and maintain. They were inspired by the legendary Piper Cub; but during construction, they used the most modern computer technology and the latest achievements in aerodynamics, top materials and avionics, so they created a perfect machine for the beginning of the 21st century.
The very first type of the Savage line entered production in Italy in 1997/1998; in 1999 the manufacturing was relocated to the Czech Republic. Ever since, it has been continuing with growing success in the Zlin Aviation s.r.o. company, relying on the long tradition of the world-renowned sport aircraft manufacturer and their highly skilled work team.
More than 500 of the Savage aircraft have found their customers all over the world so far; the latest addition to the line is the NORDEN, designed for Rotax® 914, 915 or 916 engines of 115/141/160 HP. The manufacturer offers the installation of a wide range of propellers, avionics and custom modifications in order to fulfil every bush-flyer’s dream of an „adventourist“ aeroplane capable of landing and taking off anywhere and anytime, providing the unsurpassed enjoyment of flight with a virtually unobstructed view as it was with the legendary Cub. And now you can enjoy flying with our 1600mm wingspan semi-scale model of this beautiful aeroplane powered by a brushless motor.
The EPO foam fuselage, thoroughly carbon-reinforced, comes with the KAVAN C3548-8050 brushless motor, 10×6” three-blade propeller and KAVAN R-50SB Plus ESC featuring a powerful switching SBEC stabilizer necessary to feed all 6 servos aboard. The battery compartment (under a removable hatch in the nose) offers a lot of space for your flight pack.
The two-piece EPO wing is reinforced by carbon spars and joined together with a carbon tube joiner. The wing is secured by bolts to the fuselage. The ailerons and flaps (with coupled slats on the leading edge) are controlled by two pairs of servos installed in the wing driven with short wire push rods; there are navigation LED lights installed as well. The easy-to-install composite wing struts are secured with a pair of wire clips.
The empennage is made of the EPO foam. The elevator and rudder servos are installed in the fuselage.
The main undercarriage has aluminium alloy legs with scale spring struts; the steel wire tailwheel is coupled with the rudder.
Norden is powered by the KAVAN C3548-800 brushless motor with the KAVAN R-50SB Plus 50A ESC.
You will need a 14.8V 2600–3300mAh flight pack (at least 30C) to fly your Norden.
You will need at least a 6-channel RC set to control your Norden; even a non-computer radio would work as the aileron, flap, rudder and elevator servos are controlled by a single channel each (linked via the pre-installed connection board). At least a 7-channel computer radio will work best; an independent aileron and flap servo control will help you enjoy your Norden to the fullest. Fortunately, even entry-level/budget-friendly radios like Radiolink AT9S or AT10II, Futaba T6K or T10J feature all the necessary mixes today. In this case, you will have to connect the aileron and flap servos directly (you can use our optional bypass cable set). The instruction manual contains a thoroughly tested set-up table in order to help you set up the Norden easily even if it is your first “full house” control aeroplane.
