The big aerobatic high-wing Bighorn plane proves a classic balsa airframe sporting large control surfaces, flap and powerful motor could bring you as much fun as “regular” 3D models. You can put a 50-70 cc petrol engine as well as 5-6 kW brushless motor with 12S LiPos in there - so it does not matter whether you are a high octane or high voltage fan. If you like what all those „Joke“ Pipers are doing in the air, but you prefer it really big, the 100” Bighorn is definitely a good choice for you.
Fuselage: The fuselage is of - now classic - ultra light design featuring balsa and plywood Kevlar®/carbon composite reinforced parts, detachable fibreglass cowl and large fuselage/canopy hatch allowing perfect access to the entire power system and RC gear. The engine or motor is to be fitted to a plywood/composite reinforced box using a radial mount.
Wing: The two-piece all-balsa wing with a semi symmetrical airfoil uses a carbon tube joiner; the wing halves are secured with screws to the fuselage. The large ailerons and flaps are controlled by a pairs of servos.
Empennage: The empennage is a light all-balsa work; the two-piece horizontal tailplane uses a carbon tube joiner. The elevators are controlled by servos installed in horizontal stabilizer halves. The rudder is controlled by a pair of servos with a closed-loop linkage installed in the cockpit.
Undercarriage: The main undercarriage features carbon composite legs, f and lightweight balloon wheels; the tail wheel with an aluminium alloy bracket is coupled with the rudder.
Cover: The entire model is covered by the ULTRACOTE® iron-on film (ULTRACOTE® is the trade mark for the ORACOVER® film used in the USA.)
RC Gear: You will need at least 7- or rather 9-channel RC set to control your Bighorn - the precise set-up of paired aileron, flap and elevator servos, optimized dual and exponential rates is the must for aerobatic flying. You will need 7-8 standard size servos (20-40 kg.cm torque) - you should go for high speed servos from the top of the mentioned torque range for 3D style flying.
Engine/Motor:There is a wide range of engines/motors you can choose from:
The ARTF kit contents: Oracover® covered fuselage, wing and tailplane, painted fibreglass cowl, carbon undercarriage, aluminium tail wheel assembly, wheels, set of accessories and instruction manual.
