Description

Those old glider pilots of yore used to say the really good models start with 100“ wingspan... With our CUMUL 100 you will easily find they’ve been completely right!
A high performance thermal glider is a gem for any Sunday flyer - there is nothing like relaxed sailing on a nice summer day, circling in the thermal under white clouds; or silent soaring in the evening calm when you can sit down and relax watching your model flying almost all alone... Of course, CUMUL 100 can do much more than that - thanks to its “full house” wing with ailerons and flaps you can unleash your computer radio skills: programming a number flight conditions for the improved penetration when seeking for the thermal, or increasing the lift when you are in the thermal, or the incredibly effective butterfly brake for spot on landings...to name just a few possibilities CUMUL 100 offers. And, if you are a contest minded pilot, CUMUL 100 conforms to the rules of the international FAI F5J category as well as many of those “all-up-last-down” or “endurance” national categories.

Designed and manufactured in the Czech Republic.

A builder’s kit of a high performance thermal sailplane that could be easily converted for an electric brushless motor of the KAVAN C2836/Model Motors AXI 2217 class. CUMUL 100 is a perfect project for a modeller wanting to build a really good model for sporty and “Sunday“ flying. The well-thought design with CNC cut interlocking parts fitting together like pieces of a puzzle makes the building a breeze. The kit contains parts for both the sailplane and electric glider versions. Although the assembly is not overly complicated and everything goes together really well, CUMUL 100 is not a kit for a complete newcomer.

The front part of the fuselage is of moulded fibreglass with a detachable canopy offering an easy access to the elevator and rudder servos (installed in a liteply tray), receiver as well as motor, ESC and flight pack (if used). If you decide to go electric, there is a nose cutting jig supplied in the kit to make everything easy. The tail boom is a carbon tube with liteply/balsa sandwich pylon for the horizontal tailplane. An adjustable tow hook is also included in the kit.

The three piece wing featuring the AG 40-42 wing section is of a classic design with CNC cut balsa ribs and sturdy balsa sheeted D-box. The “I” shaped main spar is of spruce upper and bottom stick and balsa shear webbing to keep all strong yet very light. The wing outer panels with winglets are attached using carbon joiners and aluminium alignment pins. The flaps and ailerons are controlled by four servos with short wire push rods. The wing is secured to the fuselage with two plastic bolts.

The empennage is made of CNC cut balsa sheets with balsa and plywood reinforcements. The horizontal tailplane is detachable for easy transport; it is secured to the fuselage with two plastic bolts. The elevator and rudder are controlled by servos located in the fuselage with piano wire push rods running through the tail boom.

You can use an iron-on film for covering - transparent  KAVAN iron-on film or ORACOVER® will be great for a Sunday flyer’s model; lightweight Oralight® or similar materials are preferred for a contest plane.

You will need at least seven channel radio to control your CUMUL 100. Good 15-20 g micro servos with metal gears (at least 2.5 kg.cm torque) will do for a Sunday flyer’s model; contest minded pilots should go for high torque/high speed micro servos like KAVAN GO-1023MG for ailerons and flaps and KAVAN GO-1020MG/GO-1021MG for the elevator and rudder (the servo trays supplied in the kit are tailored to these servos).

2S 7.4 V 800-1000 mAh LiPo battery would make a great receiver battery for a contest sailplane.

The electric version will be happy with 300-450 W 28 mm diameter brushless motor. Our prototypes have been flown with KAVAN C2836-1120 and KAVAN PRO 2836-1050 motors, 10x6“ folding propeller with 32 mm aluminium spinner, KAVAN R-40SB Plus or KAVAN PRO-40SB ESCs and 3S 11.1 V 780-850 mAh LiPo flight packs (at lest 30C for a Sunday flyer’s model, at least 40C for a contest one).

The kit contents: CNC cut balsa and liteply/plywood parts, hardwood sticks, fibreglass front fuselage, carbon tail boom, accessories set, sheet of stickers, full size building plan, instruction manual.
